Daniel Bunce a trained gardener and botanist from Hertfordshire England arrived in Hobart 1833. This was the beginning of an incredible journey that would include living with and writing down the language of a group of Aboriginal people, opening plant nurseries, becoming director of a botanical garden and of a mine and accompanying an early explorer as botanist across the continent. His handbook on gardening still provides useful advice today.
